The American Colony Hotel is a tranquil haven in sweltering East Jerusalem. The beautiful building, once built by an Ottoman leader who lived here with his harem, is situated in an Arab neighbourhood. Not far away is the Orient House, the former headquarters of the PLO. The hotel has hosted many historical giants, including Lawrence of Arabia, Winston Churchill, Bob Dylan and Uma Thurman. And still it is a hotspot.
The hotel is a favorite meeting place for international journalists, politicians and businessmen. You don't have book a room here, just enjoy a lunch or a cup of tea in the courtyard. And visit the English bookshop, opposite the entrance, where you can find an excellent collection of books about the region.
