Town Hall

The genius will explore what you can pay for!

The Town Hall (Rathaus) is built on stilts and stands upon a platform above the water of the Limmat. On the same poles was built a medieval town hall in 1252 at the same place. Around 1694 this building was replaced by the current city hall in baroque style. The facade is decorated with all sorts of inscriptions and friezes which represent masks. The most impressive room is the high-baroque chamber. Today, the city council meet in the beautiful rooms and board rooms of this building. Sometimes you are lucky and you can take a look at the high council.
