Altstadt

The 'Altstadt' (Old Town) dates back to Roman times. Here you will find the picturesque streets of the Middle Ages, immense churches, beautiful facades, the town hall and many more attractions. The most beautiful and oldest part of the city can be found at Augustinergasse. See the colourful facades with here and there a bay window from which one in the past could look who was standing at the door. The street is located in the old town near the beautiful St. Peterhofstatt and the famous Bahnhofstrasse shopping street. This famous ‘stationstreet’ arised around 150 years ago as the reinforcement walls of the city. The street has contributed to the reputation of Zurich as a shopping paradise and is the address for international fashion labels, jewelry and watches. The Bahnhofstrasse is almost an obligation for every tourist in town.
