Close to Rivona, in Southern Goa, you’ll find the Arvalam Caves, dating from the 6th century. The story goes that they’ve once been excavated by monks. This is substantiated by the fact that close to the cave a large Buddha statue was found. This is now on display in the Goa State Museum. The monks at the time were attracted by the serenity and the overwhelming beauty of this location. Most of the walls are white, but at the entrance and in the cave are a few drawings and carved stones, depicting Lord Hunaman, among other things. Visitors are mostly impressed by the mysterious sight of the cave. Also worth a visit in the area is the Rudreshwar temple.
