Forget gin-tonic, vermouth is the new aperitif trend in Barcelona. Vermut, as the Catalans say. The vermut tradition started already at the beginning of the 20th century, but goes through a revival. In some trendy bars you can order the real vermouth again, a liqueur with white wine, sugar, spices and alcohol. Order also some olives, chips or manchego and enjoy the afternoon sun. The brothers Adria – yes, El Bulli - even opened a real “vermutería”, Bodega 1900.
