Barcelona has a whopping nine beaches. One of the busiest is Barceloneta, not least because of its central location. This triangular piece of land with, on the one hand, the port and on the other hand, a sandy beach which was once the domain of fishermen. These fishermen have been displaced by hordes of city dwellers seeking the coolness of the sea. The place is full of sunbathers, beach bars and restaurants where the best fish of the town is served. One of the trendiest spots is Santa Marta, where young locals enjoy the Italian sandwiches and glasses of Spritz.
