MACRO Arts

The genius will explore what you can pay for!

A nice change from the many ruins and ancient treasures is the Museo d'Arte Contemporanea Roma, often called the Macro. The museum is somewhat overshadowed by the large and striking Maxxi, Rome's famous contemporary art museum. But the compact Macro has an impressive collection and exciting exhibitions. The museum is housed in an old Peroni factory and was recently expanded with a futuristic new wing. This wing is designed by French architect Odile Decq; the spaces are connected by walkways and ramps. The museum has an annex in an old slaughterhouse in Testaccio.
