Phuket "Pearl of the South", is the largest island in the Andaman Sea in the Phuket province in southwestern Thailand and connected by a bridge to the mainland. Off the coast of the province are still 39 smaller islands. Phuket is situated on the important trade route between India and China; still many Chinese live here, who are responsible through the centuries for various sanctuaries. Phuket acted particularly in tin and rubber with Dutch, English and French, but also with Portuguese merchants. In the architecture mainly the Portuguese influence can still be found.
