Big Buddha

The Big Buddha, visible from most places south of Phuket, is since 2007 on the top of the Nakkerd Hills. Conversely, from this location you have nice views over Phuket. On the one hand you have a sight over the sea and various beach resorts, on the other hand you are looking forward about the nature reserve and you see in the distance Phuket Town. The 45-meter high statue is made up of a framework of reinforced concrete over white jade marble. When the sun shines on this huge Big Buddha image, it is a very impressive sight. Big Buddha is dedicated to King Bhumibol Adulyadej (born in 1927) in honor of his 80th birthday. Next to it is a smaller, golden statue, made of brass.
