Grote Markt

The Grote Markt (Great Market Square) is undoubtedly the most beautiful square of Brussels. The French writer Victor Hugo called the square "the most beautiful sight in the world". It is full of gorgeous monumental buildings such as the Town Hall, the Bread House (now Museum of the City of Brussels) and the Brewers' House (now the Beer Museum). A heavy bombardment by the French devastated large parts of the original Grand Place. When the weather is good, the square is full of terraces, and there is a daily flower market. The Grote Markt is on the UNESCO World Heritage List.
